Well excuse me, princess!

It’s weird. In the early ’90s, when video games were just starting to get popular again thanks to the NES and Sega Genesis, you used to see game-themed cartoons all over the place. Sure, our parents knew they were merchandise-driven, but we sat down after school and watched a couple of them anyway. You know those shows: The Super Mario Bros. Super Show, Captain N The Game Master, Sonic the Hedgehog, Double Dragon…not so much the case anymore (well, except if you count Pokémon, which has been going on for almost a decade now). I wonder why that is? Could it be because the games in question only seem to be the “in” thing at the time, and don’t really have the staying power as other series? (Think about it…the Viewtiful Joe cartoon only lasted one season here. It was a cool concept, but the cartoon version was kinda lame. We haven’t seen any new VJ games since its cancellation, either.) Or maybe because folks my age look back on those cartoons now, realizing they were pretty lousy to begin with? Come on. It’s kinda hard to look back on shows like Double Dragon and Captain N and not laugh, thinking, “I used to watch this?
