Mai-HiME - Episode 3 - The Passion…It Burns Us!
Stupid computer…it took me long enough to clean up the mark-up on the old recaps, since converting from OpenOffice.org to standard HTML leaves behind a lot of unnecessary stuff…but thankfully nowhere near the crap I get from doing the same with a Word document. My computer’s DVD player is still messing up, so I didn’t get a chance to capture as many screenshots as I wanted for my personal use, but I think the picture on the recap page of Episode 3: “Dance of Flames / Star’s Oath” does a good job of summing up the tone for the episode and looking pretty kick-ass at the same time.
Also, we get monster-battling in this episode…yes, sir. It took a little less than eight minutes to dispatch the Monster of the Week, which seems to be well below the average of a lot of other shonen anime I’ve watched. With that quickly out of the way at the beginning (props to this episode for breaking from formula a bit), we get to learn a little bit more about Mai’s purpose at Fuuka, and also get some insight into Mikoto’s motivation for being there. With our main power trio established, this puts a close to the show’s first major story arc. I’ll give this one my first “5 out of 5″ for the series.
