And I think to myself…

…what the hell is Kaworu Nagisa doing in my party? Seriously… I’m on the second chapter of The World Ends with You, and my new partner Joshua’s got a definite “creepy effeminate white-haired kid” vibe going around him. I half-expect him to start singing classical music to main character Neku, or at least taking creepy pictures of him with his battle-ready cameraphone. Sheesh…

Code Geass – Episode 1 – An Eye for an Eye

Post Date: April 27, 2008 - 8:08 AM

Time for another Red Mage recap, everyone! Today, I’m going through with the first episode of Code Geass, a mecha show that premiered on Adult Swim last night. Okay, “technically”, it was “early this morning”, since the air time was Sunday at 1:30 AM…but I can’t stay up that late…so I watched it on their website. Since this is coming from a TV airing, I won’t be able to post any episode images because of the low quality. We’ll just have to wait until the DVD comes out for that, huh?

But yeah…the (anti-)hero, Lelouch, throws himself into a war between the nation formerly known as Japan and the empire currently known as Britannia, and he stumbles upon a mysterious girl, who grants him the power to change the world by controlling people’s minds. One of his old buddies, Suzaku, is actively working for the other side. We’re not sure why, yet, but I’m sure that’ll turn up in future episodes.

Overall, a good 4-star effort so far. Good animation, decent voice casting (I hear the original Japanese casting is one of the best out there)…all the good stuff. It starts out a little wonky, but it smooths itself out in the end.

Take that, Madden curse!

Well, well…this is a surprise. EA Sports has decided to throw its faithful gamers a curveball with its newest installment…by putting the recently-retired future-Hall-of-Fame quarterback Brett Favre on the cover of Madden NFL 2009. I think it’s one of the best ways to honor the guy before he goes into the hall. I just pray Brett doesn’t screw up the goodwill by un-retiring and then promptly tearing his ACL in an exhibition game and missing the entire season. That would truly suck.

And so it begins

The beginning of the “Near/Mello” arc of Death Note and the first episode of Code Geass air tomorrow night on Adult Swim. However, those with broadband get to see the new episodes on the website on Fridays. I’m gonna see how long I can keep track of these, since the Geass DVDs won’t be out for a while. If I do post a report, it’s going to be the Sunday or Monday after the episode airs, and no sooner.

The Paper Ends with Professor Layton

Post Date: April 24, 2008 - 7:59 PM

Yeah, I’m ready for the weekend, and it looks like my Nintendo DS and Wii are going to get quite the workout. I’m working my way through Professor Layton and the Curious Village…I’ve only finished the second chapter, but these puzzles in the game don’t seem too hard. The only one I’ve had to cheat so far was with the “fox and chicks” puzzle. That one gets me every time. The “download-a-day” puzzles are a bit harder…I’ve only been able to solve four out of ten of those so far, and the hints you get for those are kinda sparse.

The World Ends with Youwhat a weird name for a game. I’m getting a definite Jet Set Radio vibe from this one, although no real graffiti are involved in this one. I’m going to have to practice on this one for a few days in order to get used to the battle system. I’ve already lost twice because I couldn’t get to my AI partner fast enough. Maybe I shouldn’t have dialed up the difficulty so quickly in the hunt for more cash. Still a decent game so far, though.

And then there’s Super Paper Mario. Well, really, there isn’t much that needs to be said about this one. It’s a Mario game, it’s an RPG, and it’s a platformer. Three great tastes in one disc. Lovely.
