My Kingdom for a Wiimote
So, Nintendo finally released some new games for its WiiWare service yesterday. There are only six of them so far on the North American side of things…Defend Your Castle, LostWinds, Pop, TV Show King, VIP Casino Blackjack, and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King (whew…that last one was a mouthful). The last one sounded like a winner, because I’ve been sort of clamoring for a new CC game ever since I was unable to finish the original (which I just got back from my brother today). The game costs 1500 Wii Points (that’s about $15), and comes with downloadable content such as additional houses and dungeons, some of which have to be bought. I used to be apprehensive about buying games like this through online channels, for fear that they wouldn’t last very long, but this one’s turned out to be all right so far.
Basically, the idea of the game is to rebuild your kingdom by placing houses and shops, and hiring adventurers to explore distant dungeons for swag. Those of you who are used to the Dark Cloud games might recognize the similarities in item placement…find an empty slot, and then toss some of what they call “architek” in, and the house practically builds itself. So far, I’ve already played the equivalent of a gaming month (28 days) in there, but only took about three hours to do so. Time travels fast in this game.
