My epic (fail) journey begins

After spending the longest time I’ve ever spent on installing a video game, I finally got around to playing Final Fantasy XI for the first time. As a “puny Earthling”, I’m biased toward creating/recruiting human characters in my video games, so I made two different “Humes” – one a White Mage named Kaeli (Siren server), and another a Warrior named Reuben (Hades server). I wanted to start out with a Thief named Tristam, but that name and all variations on it were taken on the server where I wanted to use him. In case it wasn’t apparent, I named them both after characters from the oft-ridiculed SNES RPG Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, because I though it would be the least likely game from where people would steal names.

Long installation time is long

In the time it took me to install Final Fantasy XI and three of its expansion packs (Rise of Zilart, Chains of Promathia, and Treasures of Aht Urhgan), I was able to watch three whole episodes of Gunslinger Girl. Computer games should not take this damn long to install!

The swing of things

There I go again, spending money on games when I could put that money to better using by saving up for…oh, who am I kidding. Golf video games are fun to play, at least when done properly. I’m into more of the arcade-style golf games, like Nintendo/Camelot’s Mario Golf and Sony’s Hot Shots Golf. I only played one or two holes on Tiger Woods PGA Tour ’04 and couldn’t figure out how to use the dual-analog swing controls for the life of me. Maybe the reason I prefer the other games is because I’ve been doing it the three-button-press way since the days of NES Open Tournament Golf (and field-goal kicking in the Madden NFL games).

Chicks dig the longball

Apparently, playing as a pitcher in MLB Power Pros’ “Success Mode” gives me a better chance at taking my teams to the playoffs and becoming league champion, but the girls don’t seem to notice unless I’m holding a bat in my hands most of the time.

Giga Attack! Drabble Storm SA!

Oh, what a weekend. I think I spent way too much time over at the LiveJournal femslash100 Drabblethon for any sane human being. Case in point, I found enough time to write down twelve – count ‘em, twelve – 100-word pieces for your reading pleasure, branching out into as many different fandoms as I could shoehorn. Now that I’ve proven I can write that much in a short period of time, I think with the next coming weekend I’m going to channel all of that pent-up energy and start writing the first chapter of my original story.
