Bad advice and other nonsense

Haven’t blogged in a while, so I’ve got quite a bit to say, and it’ll go off on tangents in some places, so bear with me.

First, congratulations to the Philadelphia Phillies for winning the World Series of Major League Baseball and giving the rest of the country one less reason to make fun of us. Now, we’ll only have to hear incessant “we still don’t have a championship ring after all these years” whining from Chicago (S)c(r)ubs fans. (I keed, I keed! Chicago’s a great sports city, really.)

Next, I finally finished watching the end of the first season of Code Geass last night, and it looks like season two is going to start up on Adult Swim tomorrow night. Still can’t figure out for the life of me why almost all of the fans hate Nina so goddamned much. She’s only on-screen for what…fifteen minutes total? Even Rivalz has more screen time, and he has even less plot importance. Fickle fanbases sure are funny.

My room (along with other portions of my house) are in a constant state of dis-repair at the moment, as we’re getting the kitchen completely redesigned. Work’s been ongoing for the past two weeks, and now the repairmen are about to come around and set up all of the cabinets and stuff. I’ve seen a virtual blueprint of what the kitchen is supposed to look like afterward, and I’m told it will be “spiffy”.

Against my better judgment, I purchased a PlayStation 3 over the weekend, along with a handful of disc-based and downloadable games (among them Burnout Paradise, Soul Calibur IV, Disgaea 3, that Penny Arcade RPG, and Echochrome). Perhaps the biggest spree of impulse buying I’ve ever done, but at least it’ll keep me busy until I’m able to use the kitchen again.

Random thought on Kaleido Star episode 13: It’s kinda funny how Sora noticed the immense sparkliness exuded by Layla in the short time they’ve shared an apartment. Anything to get to know her better, I guess. This development can’t be good news for gool ol’ Ken the stage hand…

And finally, NaNoWriMo starts tomorrow! Thank goodness the first two days are weekends. Now, I should be able to get ahead of the game by word-spamming to my heart’s content. I can always edit it down later.

One Series in all the World…

…and it’s airing right now on FOX. The Phillies led off Game one with a two-run homer from Chase Utley. I’m gonna try to watch every game, because I want to see how this series plays out. A lot of naysayers believe this Series will suck because the Dodgers and Red Sox are out of it, but they’re not the best teams in their leagues, so it doesn’t matter.

Tonight, I also put up a Mai-Otome drabble entitled My Liege, but I’m intentionally putting it here as an afterthought, since the big game is now on.

Yay for shinies!

And boo for me leaving the DS power adapter at the bro’s apartment. I was planning on getting the thing replaced, because the touch screen calibration doesn’t work properly anymore, and everything on the left side of the screen is just a touch to the left. If I had it, it would have saved me a few bucks when I picked up my replacement unit yesterday. At least it’s now easier to see the games I’m playing, and the stylus doesn’t slip out of the DS at inopportune times. I can’t tell how many times I’ve nearly lost one of those pencil-thin things on the bus.

Also, it turns out I was wrong. Scary-faced Nina appeared in episode 23 of Code Geass, and not 22 as I thought it would have. Oh, well. Just two more episodes left to go in the first season, and then the epically lulzy “Code Trainwreck” begins! Yippee!

Sick with it

I’m not entirely sure what happened during my visit  to my brother’s apartment over the weekend, but I got thoroughly pasted by one of his gamer friends during a four-player split-screen showoff in Mario Kart Wii. I mean, she beat me, him, and his girlfriend combined.

My seasonal allergies appear to have started back up again after a night on the couch…and I also lost the battery charger to my Nintendo DS (but I’m planning on trading that in this week anyway).

Over the hump…finally

Definitive proof that I’ve actually gotten better at this “video gaming” thing: When I first rented Dragon Warrior IV for the NES some 15 years ago, I made it all the way to the fifth chapter, but couldn’t get past the monstrous King Leo (or Keeleon, now renamed Marquis de Leon). Then I bought Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen (the Nintendo DS remake) and slugged it out with him and won. I now know the value of how good spamming status buffs can be…especially when I had to fight Evolved!Balzack a few castles later.
