Only a day-and-a-half into Valkyria Chronicles and I’m already writing fanfic for it? Blame the phenomenon that I like to call “trope spoiler osmosis“. Well, all right, all right…I was heavily anticipating this game before there was a trope entry on it, and it really is as good as the previews say. And such potential for pairings a la Fire Emblem…Sega really does love me after all. (Let’s just hope that Sonic Unleashed marks the beginning of Sonic Team finally finding its sea legs in the 3D realm).
So, anyway, I tossed up a drabble and a double-drabble in the Fiction section, because I had to let those (plot-what-)plot bunnies out before they started breeding and clouding my head, preventing me from actually finishing the damn game.
Title: Peace in My Time (FanFiction.net link)
Characters/Pairing: Dallas/Alicia
Notes: If only I knew more about Edy, then I’d be able to write her into a story with Dallas that doesn’t somehow end in tragedy (since her other two preferred partners, Alicia and Aika, are already “involved” with Welkin and Vyse, respectively).
Title: Like a Bird (FanFiction.net link)
Characters/Pairing: Welkin, implied Aika/Vyse
Notes: Had to do a call-back to Aika and Vyse’s Skies of Arcadia roots…I just couldn’t resist.
EDIT: The above two fics are now available on FF.net, and are some of the first for this as-yet small fandom.

I’m not entirely sure how I found osu! at first, but I’m hooked on it, after only playing the thing for two days. It’s an Elite Beat Agents/Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan/Taiko Drum Master clone that you can download and play on your computer, just like Stepmania is for Dance Dance Revolution. I think I may have spent about 4 hours on it yesterday, and I’ve already pushed myself into the top 5,000. However, I can’t complete any of the four-star or above songs to save my life. Guess I’ll get better at that soon enough, just like I did when I played the real EBA and Ouendan.
I’ve finished timing my first beatmap: the full-length album version of Jamiroquai’s “Canned Heat”, which was a song on Elite Beat Agents, and that took another two hours out of my day. Now, I just need to test and re-position the notes, and I’m good to go. I might prepare one for Hoobastank’s “Without a Fight”, but getting the beat timing right for that has been hell.

And here I was, thinking that the PlayStation 3 closed beta had ended a while ago, but I got an e-mail today that allowed me to test it out. Between sessions of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Dynasty Warriors 6 (with WALL-E to break the monotony a bit), I’m probably gonna go roaming around Sony’s virtual world for about an hour a day. I just hope this doesn’t get yanked before they fully implement all of the features they’ve been promising.
On an unrelated note, where’s my Valkyria Chronicles, damn it? I’ve been to this same game store three times, and it’s been almost two weeks since the day of its release, and I still haven’t been able to find it. What gives, Gamestop?

Dynasty Warriors 6 is at least taking some strides forward in its presentation. I can finally make use of the environments and “storm the castles”, rather than being confined to the ground all the time, as in previous games in the series. There also appears to be less “Kryptonite fog” than usual, which is good, because people wouldn’t go for that sort of thing on the PS3, since the graphical technology is way more advanced. Still, I have no idea why Koei wants to port it to the PS2, when there’s already a much more polished version out. Guess I’ll stick with what I’ve got, and try to get used to Sun Shang Xiang being a bow-wielding lady instead of flinging those odd chakrams around like boomerangs.
