It all ended with a big BANG!

Stupid Abyss level. Who thought it was a good idea for a stage to provide you with limited air supply, showers of bullets, and mines that explode and kill you if you shoot them too many times? Oh, well. At least I’ve completed that part and can say that I’ve finished Big Bang Mini. The final boss, though it has more forms than all of the others I’ve faced, was surprisingly easier to beat than the one in Abyss (again, stupid Abyss level!)

The next main attraction is Mission mode, where I have to clear the levels while performing certain tasks (i.e. finish the stage in less than one minute, or don’t use any homing shots). I’ve beaten four so far, but the fifth one takes place in New York, and requires you to use only 25 shots against enemies that can only be harmed when you bullets are of the same color. A major pain for me, as I can never aim my bullets perfectly straight, no matter how hard I try. I’m thinking of returning the game to Gamestop for some petty trade-in cash, but then I’d like to at least give Mission Mode a shot so that I can see what lies at the end of the rainbow (you have to complete all of the missions in order, or you can’t see the next ones, sadly).

Holy appeal to obscurity, Badman!

Normally, when I play video games on the train, I’m usually invisible. No one sees me play, and if they do, they don’t know what game it is that I’m playing. Imagine my surprise when a guy on the train not only noticed me playing, but was able to identify Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! on my PSP (I was attempting to complete a mission at the time). I probably should have asked him if he had his own PSP, but he was on his way out at the time.

It turns out I’m not alone in nerd country…a girl sitting in the seat in front of me was playing Devil Survivor on her Nintendo DS. I probably would have asked her where she was in the game, but I was leaving at the time, and she probably would have blown me off anyway. Oh, well. I’m guessing that’s the only time I would have seen her there. No big loss.

Gotta have a few more trophies, dood!

Okay, so maybe a few of these trophies aren’t quite as hard to get as I thought. One just requires you to capture a monster by throwing it into the base panel. Simple enough. The chapter 1 maps are good for this, as the enemies there don’t really fight back as much. Another one that’s easy to do is “The Ten Towers”, where you have to attack an enemy with a ten-person Tower attack. I don’t normally use this tactic, because I think standard combos seem to work a lot better for me. However, seeing a handful of characters firing off energy bolts one by one on a hapless Sabercat is still oddly satisfying.

I suppose I should stick with the easier tasks for now, such as the two “catch and move” trophies at the bottom of the list. I may need to practice that technique for times when I’m in the Item World and need to reach a faraway Geo Panel or Geo Cube. Ooh…that reminds me…I think I saw one or two Geo Cube tasks…I could go for those next. Maybe this weekend…

Gotta have trophies, dood!

Soon (or probably right now and I’m just late discovering it), North American Disgaea 3 owners are going to get a taste of what Japanese players have been having fun with for a few months now…trophies! The list is available on NIS America’s website in PDF format. If you can’t get it from there, PS3Trophies.org also has the full list. Be prepared to spend a few hours just trying to get one of the Bronze-level trophies, though. One requires you to rack up (dramatic pause, Dr. Evil pinky pose) 1 million points of damage in one attack.

Digging myself an even deeper hole

My dungeon making skills in Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! are steadily improving. I’ve made it as far as the sixth day without being captured. The only thing I need to work on is being able to build dragons for when the higher-level heroes try to sneak in…and to remember not to go nuts with tunneling in the main chamber, giving them a wide-open area to walk around and slaughter my monsters in.

The main game seems to be rather short…the Evil Overlord says that there are supposed to be 11 heroes to fight, and after six days, I’ve already seen ten (Shota appeared twice). Perhaps this means that a so-called Legendary Hero will arrive on the seventh day?
