34 days in a row is a long time to do anything, especially playing a video game. Last time I checked, I’ve been playing Dissidia for at least one battle every day since it was released in the States on August 25, with a majority of that coming on Saturdays (bonus experience points make everything better). I’ve unlocked about half of everything there is to see in that game at this point, and cleared all but the hardest story mode. Last night, I took a night off from the game, partially because I forgot I hadn’t played it yet yesterday, and partially to give my PSP a bit of a rest. I don’t believe there are any tangible in-game rewards for playing more than 20 in a row, so I think I should have stopped right there.
Speaking of broken streaks, I won’t be making any blog posts on Red Mage for a few days…out-of-town business with a bunch of high school friends of mine. Regular updates will resume on Monday. Until then, play it safe, and don’t overextend yourselves!
I finally took some time out to finish the last case in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney yesterday and today. When the last case wound down (the one that introduced the experimental “jurist system”), I found myself wondering if that would be a factor in the upcoming Ace Attorney Investigations spinoff starring Miles Edgeworth, Phoenix Wright’s rival from the first game. It would be nice to see some of the old gang again, after only seeing Ema Skye (the new detective, replacing Dick Gumshoe) and Mike Meekins (demoted cop, only seen in a flashback), both of whom showed up in the bonus case in the DS version of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.
From what I can tell by the ending, this particular game may be Apollo’s only foray onto the DS. Then again, I think a lot of people said that about Phoenix when his first game ended, so there’s always a possibility…
Looks like I’ll get the second chance to sell all the things I mentioned in yesterday’s post. This time, though, I’ll be out at a party, so I won’t be able to stick around to see who buys what. If I had more DVDs to give away, I’d list them, but I won’t know until I look through my collection again this weekend.
Looks like I missed my chance to give away some of my incomplete anime DVD sets yesterday. I’m still sitting on one disc each for The Big O Season 2, Karin, Ranma 1/2 (one of the later seasons) and Excel Saga. Not that these are bad series…of course not. I like ‘em all a lot, but I don’t like to have single DVD sets if I can easily find the rest of the season elsewhere (I managed to get the Excel Saga thin-pack while ADV Films was still doing relatively healthy business). I figure that maybe someone else out there who’s missing the pieces that I have, and that I might be doing good for someone else out there.
Another Saturday marathon session on Dissidia has yielded positive results for me. I now have control of Shantotto (from Final Fantasy XI) and Gabranth (from Final Fantasy XII), the two playable secret characters on the roster. In the process, I think Bartz jumped about 16 levels…it took that much grinding to do.
Shantotto is a short little Tarutaru mage who specializes in chainspells. She only learns six offensive magic spells (but can learn a variety of Bravery-reducing attacks as she levels up), but she can cast up to three of them in succession for extra damage. Projectile spells like Fire and Blizzard seem to be good for starter attacks, while linking to Thunder, Aero, Water or Stone is a good way to keep them from dodging what you throw at them.
Gabranth is a big guy behind a suit of armor. Unlike the other characters, he doesn’t have any attacks that can reduce HP in normal mode. He instead charges his EX meter when you hold down the Square key, and he is usually able to do this faster than if you collected dust from the EX cores. Once Gabranth’s fully powered-up, he hits pretty damn hard.
Having just acquired them, it’ll probably be a while before I get either of them up to a level where they’ll be able to be used in serious competition. All I have left to complete now is the “Inward Chaos” storyline, and right now, nobody on my team’s prepared for that. Guess I’ll have to wait for another bonus EXP day to prepare for it…
