Gonna be a pinball hero

I don’t know why, but I’ve been itching for some virtual pinball action lately. I played the Pinball Hall of Fame: Gottlieb Collection on one of my friends’ PSPs, and while I’ll assume they’re pretty accurate, I’ve never played any of the actual cabinets that the games are based on. I heard Crave released a Pinball Hall of Fame: Williams Collection compilation this year, but I haven’t been able to get my hands on it (to tell the truth, I’m looking for it almost solely for Pin*Bot, which was awesome back in its day…too bad High Speed isn’t part of that collection).

In the meantime, I guess Sony’s Pinball Heroes will have to hold me over until I can either buy this game in stores, or the Williams Collection becomes available through the PlayStation Store. While not based on any real life pinball machine, Pinball Heroes does have four tables modeled after four of Sony’s most recent hits: Hot Shots Golf, Uncharted, High Velocity Bowling, and PAIN. I’ve tried three of the four tables…probably won’t go for the PAIN one, for the subject matter of the original game is a bit much for me to bear. So far, I like the Uncharted table the best. The flipper-to-ball physics on the Hot Shots Golf table are weird, and make it pretty hard to reach the green play area consistently without nudging the table, and the High Velocity Bowling table takes a bit too much effort to get high scores effectively. Still, for a total of $4 per table, you can’t go wrong with it.
