Experiments in console hybridization
On my first visit to my brother’s new home in Pottstown, I got a chance to actually play with his FC Twin, a hybrid NES/SNES console. It has slots for plugging in both types of games (you can insert an SNES cartridge in the front slot and an NES cart in the back at the same time), and a power-switch that lets you flip between the two. The controllers look like the ones used with the SNES, but the B and Y buttons operate as A and B for NES games, with A and X being used for rapid-fire (the L and R triggers don’t do anything). I wanted to test out a standard SNES controller in the console to see if it would play with NES games, since FC Twin controllers only seem to be sold along with the console. It doesn’t, but it still plays SNES games like a charm.
I think I may need to dig my old NES games out of my garage so that I can fully take advantage of one of these…
