In an effort to keep my programming cred (because this computer science degree has to be good for something), I’ve gone through the trouble of trying to keep my game catalog data in XML, and styling it up to look like regular HTML. I got the idea from the WOW Armory, which, like the main site, uses XML sheets to display just about everything.

With my sister going off to West Chester University in a few weeks, she’d asked me to get some items to allow her to play Dreamcast games again. She only really wanted it for Sonic Adventure 2 so that she could use the VMU to raise Chaos (that’s “chauz”, not “kay-os”).

When I went to Penn State University to study for my computer science degree, I had dreams of being a professional programmer. Obviously, that dream hasn’t panned out well for me lately, and I haven’t done much actual programming since then. I’ve worked on a few projects in C++ during my college years, but never got around to releasing anything that might be considered useful to anyone but myself (I had a SourceForge account that’s gone unused for a long, long time).

I suspect that my old version of Norton Antivirus is the reason why my computer had been randomly shutting down due to a BSOD error (one that I couldn’t see, since XP automatically resets whenever one of these shows up). The errors became less frequent when I upgraded to the latest edition of Norton 360 (the same one that’s running on my dad’s computer), but that still hasn’t stopped it from reporting false positives on files that were reported okay by other scanners. I double-checked the Starcraft II beta which Norton quarantined because of a “WS.Reputation.1″ virus, and neither AVG nor Avira picked it up as suspicious (I got the beta file directly from Blizzard, and I don’t think Blizzard would be dumb enough to post an infected program that would be downloaded by millions of users). That was pretty much the last straw, as I’d abandoned Avast several months ago after a similar problem hit. Plus, I’d been paying $70 a month for it when there are comparable options for a lot less, so I said “fuhgeddaboudit” and switched to Avira (I wanted to add AVG, but the license for the free version says that you can only install it on one of your computers at a time, and I already have it running on my laptop). It isn’t likely that I’ll be looking back, since I already switched between it and McAfee at one point before I got the computer I’m currently using.

The first two episodes of Red Mage Radio have been completed, and while I don’t believe there are going to be very many listeners, I still consider it successful, since I was even able to get the materials to get the damn thing up and running in the first place.
