Remembering my nerd roots

When I went to Penn State University to study for my computer science degree, I had dreams of being a professional programmer. Obviously, that dream hasn’t panned out well for me lately, and I haven’t done much actual programming since then. I’ve worked on a few projects in C++ during my college years, but never got around to releasing anything that might be considered useful to anyone but myself (I had a SourceForge account that’s gone unused for a long, long time).

Your PSN library just got slightly creepier

And just when I complained about Monster being a bit skippy on the iTunes player (this might just be a result of me attempting to play it without the use of an iPod), the more-than-slightly creepy anime series just showed up on the PlayStation Network last night. I’m guessing I should have held out for another day or two before downloading. Episodes cost the same no matter who you download from, anyway.

Getting back with the program

Dunno what’s happened to me lately. I haven’t done any real programming work since I left college, and that’s presumably the thing I went to college for in the first place. My professional career has led me toward data processing, which is still within my chosen field, but since I got rid of all of my programming books, I haven’t had much of an opportunity (or an excuse) to continue practicing for now.

Play like a pirate

Two freebie posts in a row!

Today being “Talk like a Pirate Day”, Telltale Games is giving away the first episode of Tales of Monkey Island (the first in a five-part series of its Monkey Island revival) for free. From the looks of it, this only applies to the PC version of the game, so WiiWare gamers will still have to pay $10 to buy it. Neither of my computers meet the minimum specs to run the game, so it looks like I’m doubly out of luck. It’s too bad…the game looks like a lot of fun. I may buy it one day, after I delete some things from my Wii’s SD card that I’m not using anymore.

Having your cake and downloading it too

I just got a hot tip from Twitter buddy mattleung that Amazon.com is briefly giving away Cake Mania for the low, low price of zero dollars and zero cents. At this point, you can get that game (and many others like it) for roughly $7.99 on several different platforms, but who am I to pass up a freebie?
