Things I should probably do before 2010 ends

Four months left to go in the year, and I still have lots of free time on my hands. It’s high time I knocked some of these things off my “to-do” list…

School is in session again, and…

…my sister officially begins her first day of college at West Chester University today. We helped her move all of her stuff into her dorm on Friday, and it took our minivan and my dad’s friend’s truck to haul it all over. Everything got set up smoothly, but Dad and I had to go back up there to deliver a book that she wasn’t able to pick up at the bookstore. I’m sure she’ll be scared at first, but she should at least be able to get through freshman year.

It’s a boy!

Yesterday, at around 2:30 AM, my brother’s girlfriend gave birth to a healthy bouncing baby boy. Well, okay…he’s not exactly much of a “bouncer” as he is a “sleeper”. Chances are that my brother’s the only one so far who’s ever seen him with his eyes open. They’ve made a vow that they won’t talk down to him using “baby talk”, even in his developing years. Good decision, I say. I’m sure that even when he grows up, he’s gonna feel weird about hearing his parents talking to him as if he were an idiot. He’s said that he expects me and my sister to treat the baby with the same level of respect. I have no problem with doing it, but I’m not sure how he’s going to enforce that sort of behavior in the rest of my family (e.g. my mother, who’s so excited at the prospect of being a grandmother that she can hardly contain herself).

Scaling back

Having been out of work for a month hasn’t done much to lift my spirits, so I’ve dropped off the daily schedule that I had set for myself. I think I’m going to go back to my old three-posts-per-week schedule. It’ll give me some time to rest while I think of some more substantial things to write about.

White-in

For the second week in a row, I get invited to a party, and “outside forces” conspire to keep me inside (those so-called “outside forces” being snow). Today, we got a little over two feet of snow. Action News says that it’s one of the snowiest winters the Philadelphia area’s ever had, but I won’t know for sure for another month or two. It does make for a good workout, though.
