Scaling back

Post Date: February 8, 2010 - 6:22 PM

Having been out of work for a month hasn’t done much to lift my spirits, so I’ve dropped off the daily schedule that I had set for myself. I think I’m going to go back to my old three-posts-per-week schedule. It’ll give me some time to rest while I think of some more substantial things to write about.

Bioshock 2 is supposed to be released tomorrow, but I don’t think I’ll be able to get it right away. It looks like more snow is going to be on the way. After digging out of two feet of the white stuff over the weekend, I don’t think I could take it. I just hope the next blast isn’t as severe as the last one. (From the recent reports by ABC and the Weather Channel, it appears I won’t get my wish.)

Last night was the night of the big Super Bowl. The New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts played down in Miami this year, and the Saints came from behind to win by a score of 31-17. I was hoping for the Saints to win this one solely on the basis of them “needing” a ring (it’s their first Super Bowl appearance ever, and Peyton Manning and the Colts have won the big game in the past). This would put me in good company with the folks at Electronic Arts, who, for at least this past decade, have played simulations of Madden NFL to “predict” the winner. The game picked the Saints, too.

For the second week in a row, I get invited to a party, and “outside forces” conspire to keep me inside (those so-called “outside forces” being snow). Today, we got a little over two feet of snow. Action News says that it’s one of the snowiest winters the Philadelphia area’s ever had, but I won’t know for sure for another month or two. It does make for a good workout, though.

I needed a breather

Between the aftermath of the earthquake that recently devastated the Caribbean nation of Haiti, and the “clusterzuck” going on in the late night television circuit this week, I had to step back and take a few deep breaths. Otherwise, I would likely have ended up posting something I would have regretted doing later.

I think I’ve calmed down a bit after last night. A good night’s sleep and clearing my mind helped a little bit. As soon as I woke up, I told myself that I was going to go and take Friday by the horns! …next Friday. It’s been a rough week for me.

Current mood: melancholy

First, the good news: I now have more time to work on completing my game collection.

The bad news? I’m not going to have enough money to get any new ones for an indefinite amount of time.

That’s all I’ll say about that. Make of it what you will.

Okay, that’s not technically accurate. It’s still December of 2009, and just one day left until Christmas. Even with that, I’m still thinking ahead to 2010. I plan to at least eliminate a small chunk of the massive backlog of video games I’ve accumulated over the years. I figure that if I do just one game per month, that may be enough to motivate me to go for more. I’d be inspired to do a Let’s Play of my attempts to finish these games, but I lack the equipment to do it properly…or capture screenshots, so if I did wind up doing a blow-by-blow walkthrough, it would mostly likely be just text, and that would be boooooring. I guess everyone would just have to take my word for it and simply believe that I beat those games…and that’s not even touching on the writing projects that I started last this year that I want to try to get done by 2010… Well, better get cracking…heh.

Oh, and since this upcoming year is 2010, I wonder if Capcom’s going to release Street Fighter 2010 for the Virtual Console at any point? My guess is not…that game was damn hard, anyway.
