We can finally shut up about the speculation over whether or not Brett Favre will play for the Minnesota Vikings this season. He came to practice today, and in a press conference that I didn’t watch because I was busy getting started on Ys VII, he says that after this season is over, he’s done-diddly-doodly-done for. This will be Favre’s 20th season in the NFL, and he seems to agree that that would be a good place to stop. He probably won’t get that last Super Bowl ring to end his career like John Elway did, but at least he’ll be able to retire knowing that he’s going into the Hall of Fame, and that he’s going to be the sole holder of several different passing records.

The Spaniards have defeated the Dutch, 1-0, and silenced the vuvuzela menace, thus restoring peace to the people of South Africa.
Eh, who am I kidding…it wasn’t really that epic. In fact, Sunday’s World Cup final was ugly and full of fouls – 14 cards were dealt out over the course of the game (13 yellow, and one red), and the lone goal was scored in the 116th minute of the contest…any later, and they would have had to decide the game with penalty kicks (which, I have to admit, would have been somewhat more exciting than what happened). It’s too bad that it had to end like that, as most of the group matches were pretty interesting to watch. I hope that 2014′s final isn’t as messed up…or noisy.

It took more than 90 minutes to get it done, but the USA national team has punched its ticket to the elimination round of the 2010 World Cup after shutting out Algeria 1-0. The USA had a goal disallowed in the 21th minute of the match after Clint Dempsey had been called offsides, and it [...]

And the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup in six games on what may have been one of the screwiest overtime goals I’ve ever seen. The puck got lodged behind the Flyers’ net in such a way that you could hardly tell whether or not it had actually crossed the goal line, but after seeing the instant replay, you could see that the puck flew in a straight line almost parallel to the goal line.
Final score, Blackhawks 4, Flyers 3; Chicago wins the Cup.
Oh, well…they had a good run.

Before the Stanley Cup Finals started, I predicted that the Chicago Blackhawks would defeat my hometown Philadelphia Flyers in six games. So far, the home team has won every game in the series – the ‘Hawks won the first two in Chicago, and then the Flyers clawed back to even the series with two wins in Philly. On Sunday night, Chicago pretty much dominated the Flyers, putting them within one win of their first Stanley Cup in decades. If this is going to happen (and my prediction being proven wrong), Philly has to win tonight at home. Since there’s maintenance a-goin’ on on the PlayStation Network tonight (locking me out of Joe Danger and 3D Dot Game Heroes until Sony finishes fixing up whatever it is they’re trying to fix up), I’m going to watch tonight’s game intensely and hope that there’ll be a game 7 to decide it all.
