Long installation time is long

In the time it took me to install Final Fantasy XI and three of its expansion packs (Rise of Zilart, Chains of Promathia, and Treasures of Aht Urhgan), I was able to watch three whole episodes of Gunslinger Girl. Computer games should not take this damn long to install!

Mall is well

How weird. I was expecting there to be a really big downpour this afternoon, but I managed to get to the mall and back within two hours before anything bad happened. It’s still pretty cloudy outside, but there hasn’t been much rain yet here.

From today’s excursion, I managed to salvage Mai-HiME Vol. 6, Mai-Otome Vol. 3, and box sets for Full Metal Panic! and Gunslinger Girl. Suffice to say my DVD player will be very busy this week. In hindsight, I probably could have saved myself money by grabbing the Gunslinger Girl episodes individually from iTunes…they only cost $2 there. They’d probably be gone within a few months, though, so I think getting the actual DVDs might be better for me in the long run.

On the literature side, I got the Azumanga Daioh omnibus, which packs all four volumes of the manga into one gigantic 600+ book. It’s drawn in yonkoma (four-cell comic) format, which should still make it an easy read. Along with that, I also picked up Ouran High School Host Club Vol. 4 (in anticipation of Friday’s announcement of the anime version’s release) and Chibi Vampire Vol. 2 (while simultaneously lamenting Geneon’s collapse, which left the anime version of Karin unfinished). No boredom for me this week, no, sir!

The first step to recovery

Okay…should I be worried that I had a dream last night where the TV networks were actually broadcasting anime at 3:30 in the afternoon?  Not regular old action shows like Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon, but shows geared toward older audiences, like Monster and Death Note.  I could just imagine all of the strange hoops that they’d have to jump through to get those on air at any time other than midnight.  All violence? NerfedReferences to death? No, sir.  Strangely, they’d keep all the explosions, because Stuff Blowing Up is always cool.  Then again, if they did decide to do all of that, a typical Death Note episode would last all of five minutes.  Have you ever seen that skit on Mad TV that parodies The Sopranos where they cut out all of the sex, violence and cursing from to make it fit on PBS?  Yeah, it’d be something like that.

On a somewhat related note, I’m three out of five volumes into the My-HiME (Mai-HiME for those of you who prefer the Japanese title) manga, and it’s about damn time I gave in and bought the DVDs already (nothing earlier than Vol. 3 seems to be available in stores…is that a problem?). I saw this on my dream TV Guide channel and thought “Damn! Shouldn’t a show like this be on Adult Swim or something?”  Ditto stuff like Gunslinger Girl and Noir.  For some reason, I’m drawn to shows (live and animated) with female protagonists.  I blame Sailor Moon.

I guess that’s it for 2007.  Have a happy New Year, y’all!
