Let’s writer’s blocking!

Post Date: January 6, 2009 - 5:47 PM

Don’t you just hate it when you feel like you have a great idea for a project, leave it alone for a while, try to start writing it again, but can’t think of any great ideas on how to write it? It’s happened to me a couple of times. I kept telling myself that I’d get back to writing It’s Never Lonely at the Top since August, but writer’s block hit me like a shoryuken to the chin, and I haven’t been able to continue the damn thing. Rather than try to hammer out a new chapter and have it wind up sub-par, I believe it might be better if I simply cancelled it and started anew. Sakura and Karin deserve better. The copy that I’ve posted on FanFiction.net will be deleted, along with my other orphaned story so that they don’t take up space (though the copy that’s on this website will stay put for history’s sake). Despair not, though, faithful readers! I do still plan on writing Sakura/Karin stories in the future, both friendly and…not. They’ll just take on a smaller scope than this one. I’ve decided that I won’t post any of it online until I’m totally satisfied with what I’ve written down, and then I’ll upload it chapter by chapter, and make changes accordingly. Now that I think about it, I probably should have done the same with my other novel…

Fanfic plus two

Two more entries have been added to the fanfiction archive since last night: Dark Wave (Final Fantasy IV) and Pucker Punch (Street Fighter, Karin/Sakura). It’s weird…I was told by one reader that Dark Wave sounded like a good intro to a longer story. I responded by saying I’d think about doing it, but I didn’t know where to start. It’s also been a while since I’ve added to my Karin/Sakura story, so I wrote Pucker Punch in hopes of getting something jump-started in my brain.

Never Lonely, not dead yet

Yes, I still am working on that Sakura/Karin fic I started at the non-hyphenated 30kisses LiveJournal community a while ago, but I’ve since moved on to make it an independent story. Some chapters will still be posted in bits and pieces of about 2,000 words, but this will get done…definitely not this year, but it’ll happen. Anyway, time to pimp out the usual sites for reading Chapter 2, Part 1 of “It’s Never Lonely at the Top“:

Down for the count

Well, it looks like I’ve been trying way too hard with my Sakura/Karin regular-length story, It’s Never Lonely at the Top, so I’ve pretty much cancelled my work on it. I wanted to make it into an actual novel-length story, but the muse just isn’t coming to me. Maybe I’ll have better luck writing something for it outside of the confine of a LiveJournal list. Indeed, I’ll actually start working on that, plus another (shorter) Mai/Natsuki story soon.

Mall is well

How weird. I was expecting there to be a really big downpour this afternoon, but I managed to get to the mall and back within two hours before anything bad happened. It’s still pretty cloudy outside, but there hasn’t been much rain yet here.

From today’s excursion, I managed to salvage Mai-HiME Vol. 6, Mai-Otome Vol. 3, and box sets for Full Metal Panic! and Gunslinger Girl. Suffice to say my DVD player will be very busy this week. In hindsight, I probably could have saved myself money by grabbing the Gunslinger Girl episodes individually from iTunes…they only cost $2 there. They’d probably be gone within a few months, though, so I think getting the actual DVDs might be better for me in the long run.

On the literature side, I got the Azumanga Daioh omnibus, which packs all four volumes of the manga into one gigantic 600+ book. It’s drawn in yonkoma (four-cell comic) format, which should still make it an easy read. Along with that, I also picked up Ouran High School Host Club Vol. 4 (in anticipation of Friday’s announcement of the anime version’s release) and Chibi Vampire Vol. 2 (while simultaneously lamenting Geneon’s collapse, which left the anime version of Karin unfinished). No boredom for me this week, no, sir!
